About National Blood Transfusion Services
The Ministry of Health has established the National Blood Transfusion Services in order to combat the lack of adequate safe blood throughout the country and to prevent the spread of infections, especially HIV, through blood transfusion. For the purpose of appropriate running of this service, Blood Transfusion Service Policy Guidelines have been developed. However the implementation of policy guidelines cannot be possible without these Specific Blood Transfusion Guidelines that will govern and direct all operators in discharging appropriate services. It is my hope that by a comprehensive adherence to these Guidelines the service of blood transfusion will improve tremendously in terms of quality and standards. Proper implementation of all activities will ultimately lead to the achievement of a national goal of adequate and safe blood for all in need. I acknowledge and appreciate the dedication of all technical experts and local and international partners who contributed in the development these guidelines. Above all I would like to thank all Tanzanians who voluntarily come forward to give their blood in order to save the lives of other fellow Tanzanians.
